Our Dundee Service offers independent advocacy across Dundee to children and young people who are aged 21 and under. Our Advocacy Workers can help you work out what you want to say, support you and your rights and if you don’t feel able to speak for yourself, we can speak up for you on your behalf.
We make sure that your rights are upheld and that your views and wishes are fully listened to when decisions are being made.
Who we can help
We can help children and young people with:
- Learning disabilities
- Mental health issues
- Transition issues
- Isolation issues
- Communication issues or
- Issues as a result of being a young parent
We can help you if you have been detained or are at risk of being affected by the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003. That means we can support you in Dudhope Young People’s Unit and Carseview Centre with your rights in hospital, make sure your care team listens to your views, and support you with Mental Health Tribunals. We can help you to get legal advice and representation.
We are also able to support children and young people who may not be able to instruct an advocacy worker because of complex support needs and a lack of understanding about the processes they may be involved in. This is known as non-instructed advocacy.
