East Renfrewshire Children & Young People

East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) commissions Partners in Advocacy to provide independent advocacy for vulnerable children and young people living in East Renfrewshire.

Who we can help

We can help you if you are:

  • Involved in Child Protection processes
  • Have a mental health issue and live in the community
  • A young person with complex needs transitioning into adulthood, or
  • A child or young person with a learning disability

We can also support children and young people with complex communication needs to ensure their rights are upheld in decision making processes through Non-Instructed Advocacy.

We work with you to get to know you, maybe through crafts, playing games and talking about your interests to make sure you are comfortable with your advocacy worker. They can meet you at home, in school, or in the community, wherever is best and safe for you. Advocacy doesn’t work for Social Work, Education, or your parents/carers. We only work for you!

Your advocacy worker won’t tell you what to do. They will listen to you and what you want to happen and can let adults in your life know this. They will make sure that you know about your rights and make sure that other people do too.

Your advocacy worker might do the following things to help you to have your views to be listened to and your rights upheld:

  • Go with you to a Child Protection Case conference, or on your behalf
  • Help you at meetings with Social Work, School or other meetings
  • Write emails, letters and make phone calls to professionals with you or for you
  • Get information to help you find out about other services and to help you and make decisions
  • Help you with transitions
